It's always exciting to me when I'm out exploring and find an abandoned homestead in the forests or mountains. I suppose it's the Anthropologist in me, but I can't help but wonder who they were, why they settled there, and what happened to them. I imagine what it would have been like to venture out into the unknown, to face such impossible odds, and to somehow make a life removed from the rest of the world.
This particular painting was inspired by a long forgotten homestead near where I lived when my family first moved to Washington. It was tucked near the treeline of a large forest with a small stream along the edge of a clearing with an incredible view of the mountains on the opposite side of the valley.
It's an acrylic painting with black painted edges (no need to frame if you don't want to) and a hanging wire attached to the back of the stretched canvas frame.
